The continuous pollution of the environment and the consumption of natural resources are two of the biggest current problems of our planet. What is EMAS

The continuous pollution of the environment and the consumption of natural resources are two of the biggest current problems of our planet.

The EMAS Regulation is an Ecological Management and Audit Scheme adopted by the European Union in 1993 (Regulation 1836/1993), revised in 2001 (Regulation 761/2001) and is now in its third edition (Regulation 1221/2009).  In 2017 Annexes I, II and III of the EMAS Regulation were amended.

It constitutes a European Ecological Management System for the various Organizations (independent of size and sector) aiming at the sustainable ecological progress of their activities, obliging businesses to evaluate and improve the ecological performance of their facilities, and to keep the public informed constantly.  It is a voluntary implementation regulation and Organizations seeking to participate in it must comply with the environmental legislation, implement an Environmental Management System and publicize their environmental performance through an Environmental Report.
