LPG INSTALLATIONS
Recognizing the critical nature of safe operation of LPG tanks and installations as their use grows in various sectors of the economy such as hotels, hospitals, and transportation, CyCert expanded the activities of its Technical Sector by offering periodic inspection services for LPG tanks and installations, in accordance with regulation R.A.A. 189/2021 “The Safety and Health at Work (Installation, Operation, and Maintenance) Regulations”.
The regulation is intended to ensure the safe operation of premises, storage areas, and LPG installations, to establish the process for submitting compliance files, to establish the frequency of LPG tank and installation inspections, and to establish the obligations of LPG owners, LPG installers, LPG inspectors, and inspection bodies.
According to the regulation R.A.A. 189/2021, LPG installations have been classified according to their risk level and the frequency of periodic inspections has been determined, as shown in the table below:

(c) Premises, or LPG storage space with containers, the maximum total stored quantity of which exceeds 500 kg but does not exceed 2,000 kg. |
At least once every five (5) years. |
High Risk | (a) LPG installation of Class III. (b) Premises, or LPG storage space in gas containers or tanks, the maximum total stored quantity exceeding 2.000 kg. (c) Premises or spaces with LPG storage tanks. |
At least once every four (4) years. |
The inspection and certification process for proper and safe LPG storage and installation includes the following:
- Compliance file review.
- Inspect the LPG installation and the LPG piping network, including the hoses, for safety and proper operation.
- Verify that the LPG installation is equipped with proper and adequate equipment in accordance with applicable codes of practice.
- Verify that the LPG installation is protected with the appropriate equipment for the category to which it belongs.
- Verify that the LPG installation’s equipment and components are suitable for LPG and the operating pressure to which they are to be exposed.
- Verify that the installation is accompanied by a certificate of completion.
- Separation distances are inspected.
- Examination of the prohibition provisions’ application.
- Verify that an audit certificate issued by an inspection body is valid.
- Verification that the premises or LPG storage space complies with the 2010 Decree’s safety and health at work provisions (Code of Practice for the Storage of LPG Cylinders – Second Edition).
After successfully completing the inspection process, the installation or storage of LPG is deemed suitable and safe for use for the duration of the certificate’s validity, provided that proper maintenance and monitoring of the good condition of all components is performed.
