PLAYGROUNDS (INDOOR/ OUTDOOR)
Since 2005, CyCert has conducted inspections of municipally owned and operated indoor and outdoor playgrounds, as well as other public and private playgrounds. With over 2000 inspections conducted in Cyprus, Greece, and other countries, CyCert contributes to the improvement of playground safety and compliance with European and international standards.
CyCert is accredited by Hellenic Accreditation System (ESYD) in accordance with European Standards EN 1176, EN 1177, EN 14960, and Greek related legislation.
CyCert has also been a long-standing member of the European Commission’s Technical Subcommittee for Standardisation CEN TC 136 / SC1 «Playground and Equipment for Children», which is responsible for developing and revising European playground standards. According to EN 1176, every new playground should undergo a Post-installation Inspection by an independent inspector to ensure that it was built and installed correctly and complies with the standards’ requirements.
CyCert conducts inspections using specialised equipment and calibres, which include the following:
- Visual and dimensional inspection to determine the proper ground distance between the equipment and the area where it may fall.
- The impact absorption surface’s condition.
- Any foundations that are visible,
- Equipment with sharp edges
- Possibility of entrapment points on the equipment for the head, neck, or other body parts
- Missing or excessively worn components.
- The equipment’s structural integrity.
Additionally, upon client request, CyCert inspectors can evaluate the impact attenuation surface by conducting HIC tests in accordance with EN 1177 using specialised CyCert surface testing machines. Testing is possible on all types of playground surfaces, including synthetic tiles, sand, bark, gravel, and grass mat.
It is critical to conduct surface HIC tests during the Post-installation Inspection to ensure that the surface is safe prior to the playground’s initial operation.
